Breast Augmentation
Pre-op consultation will create a sound foundation for a major procedure such as breast augmentation surgery.
Breast implant procedures are substantially customizable, which means that the patient will be required to have a proactive role during the consultation and provide correct feedback to the surgeon. An individualized breast augmentation plan will be created on the basis of the patient’s inputs.

The consultation will also provide an opportunity to the patient to clarify their doubts and concerns about the breast implant procedure as well as the surgeon’s practice. Patients in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and surrounding locations have an opportunity to receive breast implants from board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Angela Champion.
Determining Candidacy
The patient’s current health status as well as her past medical records will be reviewed during the initial consultation to determine her candidacy for breast augmentation surgery. The surgeon may order specialized mammograms, if necessary. The skin type as well as the degree of skin laxity in the breast area will be examined along with an assessment of the overall breast anatomy.
Important Decisions
During the consultation process for breast augmentation, vital decisions will be made regarding the choice of the most appropriate surgical technique, selection of breast implant type and size, implant placement below or above the pectoral muscle, and whether the procedure may have to be performed along with breast lift or another surgery.
Implant Choice
One of the key decisions that will have an impact on the final outcome of the procedure will be the choice of breast implants. The surgeon will explain the pros and cons of both silicone and saline implants, appropriate size options, and shape and profile options in order to help the patient make the most effective selections.
Implant Placement
The surgeon will usually have the choice to place the breast implants below the pectoral muscle or in front of the pectoral muscle and behind the breast tissue. The advantages and disadvantages of both options will be explained to the patient during the consultation so that she can make the right decision according to her breast anatomy and personal cosmetic goals.
Incision Location
The surgeon may place the incisions in breast augmentation surgery along the border of the areolas, below the breast crease or in the underarm area. In exceptional cases, the incisions may be placed in the navel region. Board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Champion receives patients from Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, and nearby areas for breast augmentation.
Developing Expectations
Many surgeons prefer to present breast augmentation before and after photographs during the pre-op consultation. This will enable the patient to know exactly what to expect and what not to expect from the procedure. Patients with realistic expectations will usually attain higher satisfaction levels in the end.
Pre-operative Instructions
The surgeon will provide clear instructions at the time of the consultation for the patient to avoid smoking for a few weeks before the surgery. Certain prescription and non-prescription drugs and supplements may also be temporarily stopped or their schedules may be adjusted in consultation with the physician.
